What do Most People Do (and Probably Wish they hadn’t) at the Christmas Party?

Whether you’ve already had your Christmas party or are preparing for it as you read this, there’s one thing we can all take solace from if we feel we’ve embarrassed ourselves a little bit too much – and that is the fact that someone else has done it and probably done it worse.

If you’re in need of comforting and want to know that you’re in the same boat as some others, then you’ll be happy to know that the people of martialaffair.co.uk have put together a survey and scoured the nation to find out not only what happens the most at office Christmas parties, but those ranging job roles such as beauticians to bankers and everything else in between. So before you start to fall into post or pre-emptive party regret, let’s take a look at the stats from the 1,000 professionals they asked!

68% had at the very least flirted or made a pass at a colleague and regretted it the next day. (NOTE: For any office juniors out there, watch your step as it apparently juniors who more often come on to their seniors at parties!)

24% admitted they had gone all the way with a colleague after the Christmas party!

– Behind these big regrets was crying in front of a fellow employee and also in joint third was revealing how much you are paid.

– Another regret that came up time and time again was spending far too long talking to the manager in a (drunken) bid to make them like you more. So by all means have a chat with your manager, but don’t linger for so long they’re making excuses to get away for you!

– Finally, other big ‘no-no’s’ that seemed like a smart idea on the night included being the very first out on the dance floor, stealing a ‘souvenir’, revealing a personal sexual story and even falling asleep made the list!

If none of that made you feel better about your own antics, knowing that only 12% of the 1,000 asked said they had got through the party with absolutely no regrets whatever.
It’s okay, you’re one of the 88% – the majority. Come January it will (hopefully) be all forgotten about!

UK companies offering thousands of temporary positions over festive period

A number of companies are set to give people some festive cheer by creating thousands of temporary Christmas jobs. Employers are rolling out scores of temporary positions, which will benefit thousands of people across the UK who are currently looking for work.

Perhaps most exciting of all for the people set to benefit from the seasonal rush, is that they could even get to attend company Christmas parties, which as we all know is always a highlight of the year.

Marks and Spencer leads the way, with plans to offer 20,000 temporary jobs over the Christmas period. Supermarket Sainsburys isn’t too far behind, with 15,000 temporary roles set to be advertised. Argos is also creating 12,000 temporary positions. Although initially hired in temporary roles, outstanding performers could well be employed on a permanent basis, much like Marks and Spencers did last Christmas. Figures show that more than one in five temporary employees was made permanent after their temporary contact came to an end in 2011.

Even considering the current economic climate, Christmas will be a busy time of year for most businesses. This works for both employers and employees, and with recent reports suggesting that the economy could be slowly recovering, temporary employees will be aiming to impress their employers if there is the possibility of a full time contract at the end of it.

Once such company that foresees a particularly busy Christmas season is Amazon, who is planning to make available 10,000 temporary jobs to assist with the millions of additional orders the website sees during the busy festive period.

Furthermore, with Christmas preparations seemingly coming earlier each year (especially in Brighton), some temporary workers can expect anything for a few days to an extra month of work compared to previous years. This can only be good news for the UK economy. For instance, temporary jobs at Argos typically last for around three months, and seasonal workers are also made aware of the potential to be made permanent. So temporary workers should remember, a job isn’t just for Christmas, it could potentially be permanent!

This year celebrate your office Christmas party… Medieval style!

We love a good old classic Charles Dickens-esque Christmas here at Eventa, but after a while it all starts to blur into one big evening of crackers and Christmas pudding. So if like us, you’re aching for something a little out of the ordinary (and dare we say it… a little bit more “magical”?) then our Medieval Christmas parties are just what you need! In fact you have three parties to choose from…

A Medieval Banquet Christmas

The king of all our themed parties, this event is a fantasy spectacle to behold! Guests will be whisked away from the 21st century and seated in a superbly decorated venue, before being served a hearty five course meal (which even includes unlimited wine and beer too!) The evening also includes two hours of live medieval entertainment, from sword fighting knights, aerial hoop artists to hand balancing performers. This event is not to be missed! Ah but I bet your thinking, “What!? There’ll be no disco?” Of course there’ll be! Because even though the 16th century wasn’t famous for its disco, we’ve made a special exception and made sure that there’ll be an opportunity for you to show off your amazing “robot” to all the knights and princesses present at the event.

A Medieval Christmas Luncheon

For those who are too busy slaying dragons in the evening, we’ve taken our renowned Medieval Banquet Christmas party and made it available during the day time! This party includes a sumptuous five course meal and half a bottle of wine per person. Not to mention the fantastically themed venue, which will be decorated in a way that will have you convinced your back in the middle ages. Entertainment for the evening will consist of jugglers, jesters and jousters (just to name a few!) As well as a very (un)authentic medieval disco. So grab your armour (coat) and prepare the steed (car) because this party is going to be quite an adventure!

Snow White’s Winter Nights

O.K. so this party is more Brothers Grimm than it is King Arthur but we included it in this trinity anyway! Hosted in a giant Gothic cellar, this party will see you and yours being served by friendly tavern girls who will serve you your five course meal, as well as top up your glass with unlimited wine/beer.  To keep you entertained there will be magicians, acrobats and costumed actors to really bring the theme to life. Plus, this year (for the first time ever) the venue will be holding a winter market which can be included in your group’s plans (please enquire for availability.)

Trust us these fantastical parties are definitely a unique experience that need to be sampled (if you haven’t done so already!) Even if you aren’t a fan of all things dungeons and dragons, these events will have you immersed in the medieval atmosphere and wanting your own coat of arms in no time.

Five Films To Get Excited About This Summer

The snow has melted and the ice is starting to disappear from the windows of cars; it’s staying light later, the number of layers people are wearing is lessening and Mungo Jerry’s most famous hit is starting to get stuck in our heads on a more constant basis. Yes folks, these events can only mean one thing: summer is coming!

As we’ve already discussed on the blog and hinted at on our Facebook and Twitter pages, the wheels are in motion here at Eventa HQ to ensure that organisations up and down the land will be able to enjoy a magnificent company summer party this year, with a massive range of themes to choose from. Speaking of themes, this summer’s big movie releases look set to go down the comic book adaptation route. Let’s take a look at the five best blockbusters coming your way this summer.

The Avengers

A stellar comic book lineup sees Captain America, Thor and Iron Man team up to do battle in a fight for planet Earth. It’s being directed by Buffy The Vampire Slayer’s Joss Whedon, so this film is going to be BIG!

Dark Shadows

Ah the classic Tim Burton/Jonny Depp team combines once more, so you know exactly what to expect. Vampires and comical Gothic references will be par for the course with this one.

The Dictator

A comedic take on dictatorship could only ever be pulled off by Sacha Baron Cohen, who spends the film risking his life to ensure that democracy never comes to the country that he has so lovingly oppressed throughout his character’s reign.

What To Expect When You’re Expecting

Yay, a romantic comedy! Our fave gals Cameron Diaz and Jennifer Lopez team up in a loose adaptation of the self-help book giving advice to expectant mothers.

Men In Black 3

Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones are back. And this time they’re in 3D, and time travelling. Oh how things have changed since their memory-erasing gizmo was the most groundbreaking movie prop of the 90s.

Looks like if you can peel yourself away from the garden or beach then the cinema is the place to be this summer. Well, that and one of our sumptuous soirees, blistering balls or tantalising team building days that is! Fear not though lovers of all things festive; our Christmas party nights will be roaring into action come November and we’ll have plenty of these available to browse on the website in the coming weeks and months.

Oh, and speaking of images…

Eventa Staff Enjoy The Booker’s Christmas Ball In London

A Christmas party? In August? We know what you’re thinking. As the UK basks in a late-summer heatwave the last thing you want to be thinking about is going to eat turkey and mince pies! Well, the Eventa sales, admin and marketing staff did neither of those things (we had goose and chocolate tart instead!), but we did all head up to the Smoke for a taste of what you lucky lot have got in store for Christmas parties London style this year. The annual Booker’s Ball, hosted by our dear friends at the Ultimate Experience, took place on Wednesday at OXO 2, a wonderful venue hugging the River Thames offering staggering views of the city, as you can see below. It was a chance to say thanks for all the agencies’ hard work and to whet appetites for the Christmas party season ahead. The theme for the evening: Secret Agents!

Things kicked off in style with a Martini (shaken, not stirred) and some excitable chatter amongst guests. Seeing as it was Bond-themed event, head of corporate events Lara and party expert Alishia thought they’d get into character:

The weather for the Christmas party was beautiful and we made good use of the venue’s balcony, enjoying the last of the sunshine before it was time to take our seats for dinner. Sales and admin team Laura, Nicky, Roxie, Jimmy and Alishia are so photogenic we thought it only right to capture them in their natural party environment:

Without further ado we took our seats for the Christmas dinner in earnest and enjoyed exquisite dining. First up was a butternut squash, creamy goat’s cheese and beetroot salad, followed swiftly by what we think should be served at each and every one of Christmas parties 2011: roasted leg of goose with fondant potato, spiced red cabbage and green beans, one of the tastiest festive dinners we’ve ever eaten! Once dessert had been consumed, a delicious chocolate tart, we hit the dance floor and even found time to squeeze in an arty picture outside by the Thames. Get in touch and see how we can create a London Christmas party just like this one for you!

Blackpool Lights Up For Christmas Time

A cursory look through our 2011 Christmas parties offering has thus far offered events taking place in every town and city between Aberdeen and Bournemouth. But not quite. Ladies and Gentlemen, it is our great honour to finally declare Blackpool Christmas parties open for business! To all you lovely seasiders, we’re sorry that it’s taken us a little longer to get your parties live on our website but rest assured we’ve got some cracking events in store for you.

Blackpool is a nostalgic and traditional kind of seaside town all year round but come the winter months the resort’s famous lights crank into life, blazing a trail for miles along the coastline. Far from being a bleak, barren and rain-swept place in the darker months, Blackpool is ignited by a warm and accommodating festive spirit. Christmas party venues up and down the coastal strip throw open their doors for wonderful festive events.

The North Shore area is home to its fair share of 2011 Christmas parties. Retreat to this quieter part of town for a relaxed and refined Christmas party. A run of events due to take place between the 9th and 17th December will see a wonderful festive dinner accompanied by half a bottle of specially selected house wine, post-meal coffee and truffles and a live band to keep the beat.

Whilst the sun continues to shine down upon the United Kingdom in abundance you’d be forgiven for finding it a little difficult to think about Christmas party nights. It is hard to believe that a lot of our most popular nights in Blackpool are already beginning to fill up but that is indeed the case. Just think of it: you’ll be able to get your 2011 Christmas party reserved now and can then go back to that ice cream in the sun safe in the knowledge that come Christmas time you’ll be popping corks and clinking glasses alongside your good friends and colleagues. Perfect!

The Hacienda Years – Celebrate Your Office Parties In Manchester

The Hacienda nightclub was an institution of a music scene dominated by luminaries such as New Order, The Stone Roses and Happy Mondays. The Smiths before and Oasis after it ensured that Manchester’s musical legacy well and truly cemented itself in the history books and became famous the world over. Although now sadly defunct, the spirit and culture fostered by this iconic venue nonetheless lives on. A similar trend has begun to emerge amongst this year’s Christmas parties in Manchester.

A cursory glance through the huge list of amazing events we are fortunate enough to be promoting this festive season reveals details of such Christmas parties as the Venetian Carnivale, To Russia With Love, Party Like A Rockstar and Dinner With Michael Buble. All of these party nights come loaded with live entertainment, an explosion of sound and colour punctuating each and every one. Fabulously decorated Christmas party venues provide the perfect backdrop for the madness to unfurl.

It would only be right to begin by summarising the Party Like A Rockstar event. Held in a venue capable of seating 2500 revellers, this magical event presents a truly immersive Manchester Christmas party experience, a far cry from the standard dinner and dance. A glass of Champagne and canapés kick things off in style and the culinary delights continue with live cooking stations serving Asian and Italian food, with a Christmas party twist of course! With an array of fairground rides, games and stalls including laser clay pigeon shooting and the famous waltzer, you’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to entertainment. Sit back later and let the pros take care of things with aerial silks, trapeze artists and fire breathers. Not forgetting the musical side of things, Rockaoke allows you to sing along to a live band up onstage. Can you overcome those nerves to party like a rockstar?

The list of Christmas party nights taking place in Manchester in 2011 has astounded even us and we have a sneaking suspicion that this festive season is shaping up to be the best yet. Get in there before they’re gone!

Bournemouth Goes Christmas Party Crazy

There can be no more British a summertime scene than rows of deckchairs perched atop pebbled beaches populated by old couples wearing shorts, socks, sandals and knotted handkerchiefs whilst enjoying a 99 flake. It is an image synonymous with the seaside town of Bournemouth, a picturesque promenade dotted with colourful beach huts and the sound of children playing in the sun. You’d be forgiven for thinking that such a summertime resort couldn’t possibly be home to such a wealth of venues and suppliers offering some of the region’s finest Christmas party nights but Bournemouth is exactly that and more.

There can be no denying that the town has a windswept and weather beaten feel about it during the winter but once Christmas party season swings into action the warmth and intimacy of the summer months returns in an instant. Turning the heat up in the Bournemouth Christmas parties stakes in 2011 are the Fire Party Nights held within a stone’s throw of the English Channel. As well as feasting on a sumptuous four course Christmas party meal guests will enjoy a red carpet arrival and complementary welcome drink to kick off the evening, red-themed party room to complement it and prize draw to hopefully make it a successful night out.

If you’re a cool customer then you can take the heat down a notch over at the Ice Party Nights events. A cool blue colour scheme is the order of the day this time round, with a wonderful meal topped off with Turkish Delight, the White Witch of Narnia’s favourite! The heat will be well and truly raised again on the dance floor as the DJ brings this particular Bournemouth Christmas party night to a rocking conclusion.

With a huge range of hotels hugging the coastline, we recommend that you extend your stay in town and, weather permitting, take an early evening stroll along the beach. Wrap up warm though, this is no time of year for those socks and sandals! So there you have it: Bournemouth Christmas parties 2011. Perfectly out of the ordinary!
