This year might be the last time that the Christmas Number One is all about the X Factor as a change in scheduling is likely to mean the crowning of the winner of the hit show is to take place after the festive season.
Last year the finale of X Factor was hijacked by a successful campaign by fans of Rage Against The Machine to beat singing contest winner Joe McElderry top of the charts at the weekend before Christmas.
It is likely that a similar social media campaign will challenge the next winner of the show, which will shortly be hitting our screens. However, this may be the last chance for Simon Cowell to claim the coveted top spot, which he succeeded to do with Shayne Ward, Leona Lewis, Leon Jackson and Alexandra Burke.
An insider told The Sun that the launch of the planned US version of the reality TV singing contest franchise will delay the start to the UK series until November. This would mean the final of the show would take place in March 2012.
Hopefully this would lead to a selection of quality Christmas tunes for us to enjoy on our Christmas party nights rather than a host of cheesy remixes.
