1. Explore Mindfulness
Mindfulness has soared in popularity recently and there is great evidence for its stress and anxiety reducing benefits. But if you’ve not heard of it before, mindfulness can be described as the state of simply being, focusing on the present moment and being aware of what’s happening inside us and around us at that very moment. It allows us to reconnect with our bodies and awaken our senses to sounds, sights, tastes and feelings that are going on in the here and now. With practice, mindfulness is beneficial in helping us to simply observe our thought processes and stand back from our train of thought.
If you haven’t tried mindfulness before, then it’s certainly something that’s worthwhile in trying and there are plenty of excellent apps around which will start you on your mindfulness journey. Headspace is brilliant app where you’ll be able to learn the basics of meditation, which will help you learn how to train your brain for a happier and healthier life. 2. Enjoy a soak in the bath
There’s nothing better than running yourself a nice hot bubble bath and enjoying a long soak. If you’re looking for the ultimate relaxation, then how about adding some candles, turning the lights off and playing some soothing spa music?
3. Switch off
Once work has finished, then it’s time to switch off from the day’s events both mentally and physically. If you normally respond to work emails on your commute home or do further work in your living room, then it’s time to stop. Switch off your work mobile and don’t be tempted to load up your laptop to check your inbox.
The evening is your time to relax and focus your energy into something of your choosing – you’ll never be able to unwind if you don’t allow yourself to detach from your working day. So break the habit and enjoy some ‘you’ time, you really do owe it to yourself!
4. Hit the gym
The gym is the perfect way to release everything that you’ve put into the day and if you’re feeling particularly stressed. 5. Read a book

6. Eat and drink well
Make sure you nurture your body with good, wholesome foods. Ditch the processed foods and cut down on refined sugars. Stick with foods that are rich in tryptophan such as turkey, cheese, eggs, fish and oats, as these will then be converted into serotonin, the neurotransmitter responsible for making us feel good! Also ensure that you drink six to eight glasses of water a day which will keep you hydrated and feeling good all day long!
7. Get some sleep
Make sure you’re getting enough sleep at night to help aid with stress relief. When we’re sleep deprived, it can be hard to think straight and make decisions. Ensure that your bedroom is clean and clutter free so that you feel relaxed before bed. A messy room can make your mind feel chaotic, so a clean and tidy room can help with a stress-free mind!
8. Treat yourself to a massage
Enjoying a massage is the perfect treat for the mind, body and soul and is ideal for ridding yourself of pesky knots, tensions and stress. Massage has been proven to reduce stress, anxiety and also encourages a restful sleep. In addition. it’s also been known to help ease headaches too.
