5 Ways you can go Green at Work

It’s Earth Day! That means we should all make a little more effort to protect the environment when we can.

Here are five simple ways you can make a difference…

  1. Take Public Transportcycle

Or better yet, walk, cycle or jog to work. Did you know that those who drive to work are exposed to 5 times as much pollution as those who cycle and 3.5 times as much as those who walk? So not only is this beneficial for the environment but for our health too.

  1. Reconsider Printing

Do you really need to print off your lunch schedule? And do we really need a time sheet for every meeting? The average email has just 1/60th the carbon footprint of a letter on comparison, so let’s stick to electronic schedules from now on.

If you don’t already have a recycling bin at work, then why not? Go get one and start putting all paper, cardboard and plastics in a recycle bin.

  1. Drink Greenshutterstock_182226236

When you go to make a cuppa, offer to make others one at the same time to save constantly boiling the kettle (plus it’s only polite!). And choose tap water, turn the water cooler off! We don’t really need the luxury of chilled water do we?

Get a recycled, BPA free water bottle and take it into work rather than buying a new bottle each day to help conserve water. Plenty of aluminium cans keep water cool all day too, so no excuse!

  1. Turn it Off

You definitely do not need to leave your computer on all night just so you don’t have to wait for it to turn on in the morning. Yes, we’ve all done it. Shut it down! It will probably make your computer run faster too.

Choose electric fans instead of air conditioning if you absolutely cannot keep cool even with the windows open.

  1. Get some Plants

Not only will plants make the office look nicer and smell nicer, they will help to purify the air in the room. Choose an aloe plant, gerbera daisy or golden pothos for the best purifying effects.

Make an effort to plant something in your garden at home too and keep the Earth green!
