When the end of the year comes around, it’s time to find a venue that’s a fitting setting for a meal to celebrate Christmas. Well, we’ve found it – this Italian epic of a restaurant is set in a magnificent grade II listed building dubbed the ‘King of King Street’. It’s a grand old converted bank that has been taken over by a well-known celebrity chef. The restaurant is set over three floors – the former Banking Hall, with old booths to dine in; the mezzanine level, with its spectacular view of the whole restaurant, and the original Vault in the basement, which has been converted into a super-cool private dining room (see exclusive Christmas parties).
The menu is filled with tempting dishes, evoking the vibrancy and passion of traditional Italian cooking, with a celebratory twist. You can kick off with dishes like cured meats or bruschetta. The mains include expertly constructed pasta dishes, a world away from your average spag bol, as well as tempting dishes for carnivores and inspired veggie offerings. Be sure to save room for dessert, as you can choose from classics like cheesecake, squidgy chocolate brownie or traditional Italian ice cream.
You can choose two or three courses, and drinks to suit your taste, from the excellent house wines to sparkling prosecco. Of course you can order further drinks, either on the day or in advance as part of the package. Prices for this showstopper of a Christmas celebration meal start at just £16.50 per head.
