Reports this week have suggested that Manchester City forward Mario Balotelli, renowned for crashing cars, driving into women’s prisons and throwing darts at youth team players, is thinking about ways to factor in Manchester Christmas Parties to his team’s way of thinking.

An exhibition to celebrate over 60 years of British innovation was launched on the top floor of the Gherkin last week, a building that will feature in the show to be held at the V&A between 31 March and 12 August 2012. Other icons featuring over the course of the exhibition include Concorde, the E-Type Jaguar, the Dyson bagless vacuum cleaner and Harlow new town. Iconic venues feature heavily throughout, with sections of the famous Hacienda nightclub in Manchester being faithfully recreated by the venue’s original designer, Ben Kelly.

The venue chosen for last week’s launch, the top floor of the Gherkin building, is one that we like to think of as one of our flagship settings for Christmas parties London style in 2011. Teenage pop superstar Justin Bieber is to release a Christmas-flavoured album entitled ‘Under The Mistletoe’ next month, a sure fire sign that the Christmas party season is being seriously looked forward to now in the very highest echelons of the celebrity world. We haven’t been able to ascertain exactly why the album is being released in November and not a little closer to the big day; maybe it is a cunning marketing ploy to capitalise on shops launching their Christmas ranges earlier than ever before (see our earlier blog on Harrods) or perhaps the 17-year old heart-throb just can’t wait for the festive season to begin. Either way, our joy that someone was clearly getting as excited about Christmas as we are has been magnified since it was announced that Mariah Carey is rumoured to be appearing on the album.

Eventa Staff Enjoy The Booker’s Christmas Ball In London

A Christmas party? In August? We know what you’re thinking. As the UK basks in a late-summer heatwave the last thing you want to be thinking about is going to eat turkey and mince pies! Well, the Eventa sales, admin and marketing staff did neither of those things (we had goose and chocolate tart instead!), but we did all head up to the Smoke for a taste of what you lucky lot have got in store for Christmas parties London style this year. The annual Booker’s Ball, hosted by our dear friends at the Ultimate Experience, took place on Wednesday at OXO 2, a wonderful venue hugging the River Thames offering staggering views of the city, as you can see below. It was a chance to say thanks for all the agencies’ hard work and to whet appetites for the Christmas party season ahead. The theme for the evening: Secret Agents!

The weather for the Christmas party was beautiful and we made good use of the venue’s balcony, enjoying the last of the sunshine before it was time to take our seats for dinner. Without further ado we took our seats for the Christmas dinner in earnest and enjoyed exquisite dining. First up was a butternut squash, creamy goat’s cheese and beetroot salad, followed swiftly by what we think should be served at each and every one of Christmas parties 2011: roasted leg of goose with fondant potato, spiced red cabbage and green beans, one of the tastiest festive dinners we’ve ever eaten! Once dessert had been consumed, a delicious chocolate tart, we hit the dance floor and even found time to squeeze in an arty picture outside by the Thames. London Olympics Will Leave Legacy Of Events Venues

There has been a palpable feeling of scepticism in certain circles relating to the fact that the venues hosting the 2012 London Olympics could become ‘White Elephants’ upon the games’ conclusion, just as the Millennium Dome did shortly after the turn of the new century celebrations. Thankfully, the Olympic Park Legacy Committee have begun to reassure the public by stating confidently that the vast majority of Olympic venues shall become fabulous events spaces shortly after the closing ceremony. The 3,500 seat Aquatic Centre could be turned into a dry venue thanks to rising floors within the pools and a 20,000 square metre events lawn is to be built alongside the main stadium, to be used for exhibitions and conferences.

What really drew us towards this story however was the feasibility of utilising the towering Orbit, a grand structure with a viewing platform over a hundred metres up and offering views across the city, for the most unique of Christmas parties London style. According to organisers, this platform could be used to host events, such as Christmas parties, for up to 300 people. According to head of corporate events at Eventa, Lara Behrens, the Park could become something of a hotbed for festive bashes:

“Absolutely; the OPLC have stated that bringing events to the area once the games have ended is of paramount importance. We have singled out the Orbit as a venue that we’d like to host parties at. It won’t be ready in time for Christmas parties 2011 of course, but just imagine standing up there on that heated viewing platform, sipping Champagne and looking out over London’s twinkling landscape?”
