Anything can happen at a Christmas party – even plotting to oust the PM

It is quite normal for something extreme to take place on a Christmas Party – something that you regret on the morning after, or at some point in the future.

However, you’d be hard-pressed to beat what happened at a Christmas Party organised by former Home Secretary Charles Clark last month, during which a plot to unseat Gordon Brown was hatched.

The ‘Bring a Rebel’ Christmas party saw members of discontented backbenchers invited for drinks and told to bring ‘three MPs who want to see the Prime Minister gone by the end of January’, according to the Daily Mail.

Brown has survived, so will the plotters be regretting their Christmas party? So much for it being the season of goodwill.
